Press release by two Chicago organizations working to end American bank loans to the apartheid regime in South Africa announced a major victory. The First National Bank of Chicago, the largest seller of the South Africa's gold coin the Krugerrand in the Midwest has agreed to suspend over the counter retail sale of the Krugerrand. The bank will continue wholesale of the Krugerrand. The press release quotes Carole Collins of the Chicago Coalition on Southern Africa (CCSA) and Joan Elbert of Clergy and Laity Concerned (CALC). The press release says the campaign will continue until First National ends all sales of the Krugerrand and loans to South Africa.
