Leaflet advertising a tribute to Nelson Mandela of the African National Congress (ANC), marking his 65th birthday, at Peoples Congregation Church on July 16, 1983. The organizer is the MANDELA COMMITTEE, comprised of the Committee for a Free South Africa, Southern Africa Support Project, Washington Office on Africa, and the Washington Support Committee of TransAfrica. The leaflet includes an excerpt of Mandela's statement from the dock during the Rivonia Trial. People can help by supporting D.C. Divest and urging their city council to support Bill 5-18, which would prohibit the District government from investing in South Africa and Namibia. People can join the phone-tree to be notified of upcoming actions. Also, people can help with a petition and letter campaign to free Nelson Mandela and all South African political prisoners. The leaflet mentions a postcard campaign initiated by the African National Congress (ANC) and also sending Nelson Mandela birthday cards at Pollsmoor Prison and expressions of solidarity to Winnie Mandela.
