The newsletter comments on President Bush's view, expressed during the UN Security Council debate about Iraq, that the UN would cease to be "relevant" if it did not do what he wanted. In contrast, the newsletter argues that was is truly relevant is treatment for millions of Africans living with AIDS, not drug patent protection; debt relief for the global South to free funds for poverty reduction, not restrictive financial policies; fair trade policies, not policies to feed U.S. greed; and rehabilitation of victims of conflict, not warmongering.
