Mailing to Chairs, Co-Chairs and Steering Committee members of the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid after the labor rally for Nelson Mandela to raise funds for South Africa's first one-person/one-vote election to be held next April. Union members eagerly came to hear Mandela and of his cause, and it was a proud day for organized labor; many pitched in, on short notice, to make the rally a success. The mailing thanks many union leaders and organizers, particular those who have been in the forefront of anti-apartheid efforts for years and who have been main supporters of the Labor Network. Thank yous are given to the CFL (presumably the Chicago Federation of Labor), State AFL-CIO, and Region 1 AFL-CIO. The next Steering Committee meeting is on August 18 at American Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU). A contribution and order form is included for unions that have not yet contributed. Posters and photographs are available for purchase, also, and a video on the rally is being produced. Also enclosed is a flyer for an event sponsored by Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) on August 6 to commemorate South African Women's Day and keep the pressure on apartheid.
