Press release announcing a news conference on February 15 called by Illinois labor leaders to announce local actions to win the release of imprisoned South African union leaders on trial for treason. Press conference will be at Council 31 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Speakers will be Jack Parton, District 31 Director, United Steelworkers of America; Bill Stewart, Region 4 Director, United Auto Workers (UAW); Johnnie Jackson, Chicago President, Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW); Alderman Danny K. Davis; Rep. Carol Mosely Braun; and Sen. Emil Jones. Labor and political leaders will announce actions planned including a petition campaign, a March 18 labor demonstration, a stepped-up boycott of Shell Oil Co., and demands for stronger U.S. government action.
