Leaflet seeking support for House Bills 4831, 4838, and 5446 H4, which were reported out of the House Civil Rights Committee on March 18, 1980 and will come up for vote in the Legislature in November-December. House Bill 4831 requires the State Civil Rights Department to compile a register of corporations that operate in South Africa and prohibits state educational institutions from investing in corporations operating there, House Bill 4838 provides that state employee retirement systems divest from such corporations, and House Bill 5446 H4 requires that the State Treasurer not deposit any surplus funds in a financial institution that makes loans to the Republic of South Africa, to corporations of the Republic of South Africa, or to any South Africa operations of U.S. corporations. The leaflet asks people to write their State Representative and State Senator, Speaker of the House Bobby Crim, Senate Majority Leader William Faust, House Majority Leader Joe Forbes and all other Majority and Minority Leaders in the House and Senate and ask them to support the bills. The leaflet discusses human rights, the pass book, bantustans, technology, U.S. investment, Rep. Virgil Smith, the military, the police, control, and Soweto 1976. • WHY IS APARTHEID AN ISSUE? • WHY DIVESTITURE? • Now You Can Do Something About Apartheid In South Africa
