Revision of the TIAA-CREF Divestment Campaign second statement sent to members of the Steering Committee for review before August 20. The statement calls on TIAA-CREF to immediately commit itself to divest from U.S. companies that remain in South Africa and Namibia and to complete the process within three years. The statement says TIAA-CREF is the largest private pension plan in the world, with nearly 800,000 members from 3,600 educational institutions and an investment portfolio of more than $45 billion; TIAA-CREF invests over $7 billion of our savings in companies that do business in South Africa - more than the total divested by universities, colleges, cities, states and pension funds to date. The statement also discusses apartheid, shareholder resolutions, and multi-national corporations.
