The press release announces the National Weeks of Anti-Apartheid Action from March 21 (the 26th anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre) to April 6 (anniversary of the hanging of Solomon Mahlangu, a young militant of the African National Congress). Actions on March 21 will focus on federal offices to protest U.S. covert aid to the South African-backed rebels in Angola known as UNITA. April 4th, anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be a National Divestment Protest Day focused on universities, states and cities. Protests are being organized in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Des Moines, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington DC. Actions being organized in Honolulu (by the Hawaii Committee for Afric)a, Washington, D.C. (by the Student Coalition Against Apartheid and Racism), and New York (by the Columbia Coalition for a Free Southern Africa) are highlighted.
